The Gearhart REDBACK® Drilling Roller Reamer is a unique tool that is the result of a research & development program launched by GEARHART UNITED PTY LTD, Australia to develop a roller reamer that is reliable and durable enough to be picked up as part of the drilling BHA. The intention was to provide an effective solution to drilling-torque related challenges, which are commonly created by stabilizers rotating in a poor hole-quality borehole or when drilling long step-out directional wells. Client identified benefits when Redback Roller Reamers have been run in their BHA’s :- • Reduced Drilling Torque – provided by the low friction contact area of the reamer tools, • Improved Rotary Steerable performance – lower drilling torque allowing a higher RPM capability. • Reduced Trip Times – due to improved bore wall geometry • Reduced Stick Slip and Resultant Vibration – leading to longer bit life and improved performance. • Improved ROP – better weight transfer provides a more constant energy level (WR) at the bit. • Extended Meantime between Failures due to reduced torsional vibrations • Improved Acoustic Log Quality – due to reduced torsional vibration • Reduced Casing Running Times – due to improved bore wall profiles • Extended Well Bore Reach – due to reduced torque and tortuosity.
