DNV is a leading provider of safety and reliability services, where classification, certification, verification and advisory services are key activities. The staff consists mainly of highly qualified engineers and technical personnel.

DNV establishes Rules and Guidelines for the classification of mobile offshore platforms and other floating marine structures (and of course also ships). It also issues rules and standards for the classification, certification and verification of fixed offshore structures.

Today DNV has cassified approximately 120 Mobile Offshore units.

DNV is accredited by 14 countries to certify quality assurance systems according to the ISO 9000 standards, and has so far certified close to 22,000 companies. DNV's Safety Rating System is used at over 6,000 industrial sites throughout the world.
