Company Overview: Red Roof Inns
Red Roof?s first inn opened in Columbus, Ohio. It was 1973 and room rates were just $8.50 a night.
It was founded by James R. Trueman, a Columbus builder and contractor (with a passion for driving race cars in his spare time.) He believed, like many of our guests, in simplicity and economy without giving up quality. He focused on the meaning of value ? good, clean comfortable rooms, a friendly, attentive staff and charging less for it.
Trueman was dedicated to providing a winning stay for all Red Roof guests. And he took pride in being consistent, whether you were in Atlanta or Washington- and for being known as "the smart choice for travelers". By 1986, Red Roof grew to 155 motels. Trueman later became an Indy 500 winning team owner.
Today, Red Roof has 345 inns in 36 states, employs over 6,000 people and serves millions of guests each year.
