The Petroleum Geoscience Centre at the University of Manchester combines postgraduate MSc and PhD training, industry professional development programmes and internationally renowned research within one of the leading Earth Science departments in the UK, a Grade 5 research department with an "excellent" rating for teaching quality.
NEW Infrastructure and Dedicated Facilities
The Department of Earth Sciences at Manchester University has world-class research and teaching facilities, including geochemical, sedimentological and geophysical laboratories. In addition, a dedicated new teaching facility with a 12 seat workstation suite and access to the Manchester Visualization Centre 3D immersive viualization laboratory will allow integrated training/research using the latest technology. Seismic interpretation and basin and reservoir modelling software includes: Schlumberger?s GeoFrame?, Paradigm Geophysical?s VoxelGeo?, Basin Mod?, Terramod? and Kingdom Suite?.
ESTABLISHED Petroleum Geoscience MSc
Established 15 years ago at Oxford Brookes University, the Petroleum Geoscience MSc provides training in exploration and production geoscience to meet the needs of the oil industry. The course has strong links with international oil companies and a proven track record. The move to Manchester allows consolidation of petroleum geoscience teaching and research within a major centre for Earth Sciences with world-class facilities. The teaching team is led by Dr Jonathan Redfern (Director of Petroleum Studies with 13 years experience with international oil companies) and includes leading researchers and experienced petroleum geoscientists. Additional industry tutors allow an increased range of course and specialisation options to be provided.
