Gazprom is a vertically integrated gas company controlling 70% and 94% of Russia?s gas reserves and production, respectively, and 100% of the domestic gas pipeline network. It is the largest gas company in the world, accounting for about 25% of world gas production and 23.5% of the world?s proven reserves. The company was incorporated under a special presidential decree (No. 1333 of November 5, 1992) and inherited all CIS export contracts to Central and Western Europe.
Gas production and transmission remain the core of Gazprom?s business, representing over 95% of the group?s revenues. Downstream operations consist of three separate geographical businesses: Europe, the CIS and Russia. Two key assets make up the backbone of Gazprom?s operations - its reserves and pipeline network.
