JRS Petroleum Research was incorporated in 2000 to meet the demand for high quality, cutting edge petroleum geomechanics solutions for petroleum exploration and production. The company is a commercial spin off from the highly successful 'stress group' at the Australian School of Petroleum (ASP) led by Professor Richard Hillis, one of three research groups in the world focusing on the application of in situ stresses in the oil patch.
The consultancy targets the oil and gas exploration and production industry in the Australian/Asian region with the intention of moving into the Middle East and Europe. The main focus of our work is the determination of in situ stress (the stresses within the earth's crust) and the application of these stresses to increasing the efficiency of oil recovery, reducing drilling costs and minimising the risk of exploration. The company has also applied its expertise to solving problems related to CO2 sequestration, geothermal energy and coal bed methane.
