Harken has grown from zero proved oil & gas reserves in 1992 to almost 50 million barrels of oil equivalent ("BOE") at December 31, 1999. With approximately 740 thousand acres under contract in Colombia, Harken controls one of the largest net onshore exploration acreage positions in that country, one of the world's most exciting geological provinces. In Colombia, the Company currently produces about 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Also, the Company controls an additional 1.4 million acres of exploration acreage in nearby Costa Rica. This acreage may have similar geologic potential to that on Harken's Colombian blocks. The Company's Middle Americas track record has been excellent as summarized in the chart below.
Harken also owns production in the United States totaling approximately 3,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The production is located of the four corners area of Utah, West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, the Ark-La-Tex area and the Gulf Coast region.
