A World-Class Fabrication Facility Catering to the FPSO Market
J. Ray McDermott - A Distinguished History Since 1947
J. Ray McDermott is one of the best recognized names in the offshore industry having begun its operations in 1923. Over the years it has enjoyed a number of industry FIRSTS.
A Legacy of Accomplishments by Two Giants in Their Fields
To name a few: In 1947 J. Ray designed and installed the first steel template in 20’ of water, offshore Louisiana.
In 1978 we fabricated and installed the first platform in more than 1,000’ water
Many notable milestones and many years later, in 2000, we installed an S-lay pipeline in more than 3,000’ of water – at that time the deepest S-lay installation in the world.
Then in 2003 we completed the world’s deepest Spar platform; the first to be delivered on an EPCI basis in the Gulf of Mexico.
Concentrating our engineering focus on providing floating production solutions for deepwater, we formed FloaTEC, a joint venture with KeppelFELS, in 2005.
With the purchase of Secunda Marine in 2007, we grew our fleet by an additional 14 harsh-weather vessels to support EPCI subsea activities.
2008 & Beyond
In 2007 we constructed the 19,000-ton Arthit integrated topsides in Asia Pacific - the largest in the region - and installed it using the float-over method, offshore Thailand. Recently we installed a second, large integrated topsides weighing 17,000 tons in the Mekong Basin in Vietnam, also a float over.
The industry has come a long way since that first steel template was installed in 1947, and we continue to pursue avenues to grow our business, with the latest addition of McDermott Wuchuan, our joint venture company in China, to provide FPSO topside fabrication facilities.
