Recently, interest has peaked in the vast quantity of untapped natural gas resources in the US, the reserves of which were inventoried in 2008 at 238 Tcf, with producers specifically targeting the nation's promising shale formations for this energy commodity.

The Mechanic is a key part of the rig's maintenance crew and is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all drilling contractor-owned equipment on board the rig. The Mechanic is expected to be competent with all aspects of diesel, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
