Floorhands, or Roughnecks, are the main component of the drill crew and take direction from the Driller and Assistant Driller/Derrickman. Floorhands carry out the maintenance and cleaning of the drill floor and all drilling equipment. During tripping operations, floorhands assist with the safe and efficient makeup/breakout of the drill string. The senior floorhand is usually tasked with maintaining and monitoring the solids control equipment and activities on board the rig.
