Proven oil reserves in Thailand is estimated at around 453 million barrels, while proven natural gas reserves stood at about 10.1 Tcf. PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), the upstream subsidiary of state-owned PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), is the dominant player in the Thai petroleum industry. Chevron, Total, Mitsui and BG Group are some of the bigger foreign companies with a presence in Thailand's petroleum sector.

Trainers/Instructors can perform various types of training from general safety, to more technical drilling procedures. Depending on the type of training, instructors will use a variety of mediums including classroom, online and hands on training in the field. Instructors and trainers have to be highly qualified in their area of expertise and usually have many years of experience.
