Major energy producing countries in the region include China, Malaysia and former OPEC member Indonesia, while Myanmar may potentially join the producing group following the end of military rule and the opening of the nation's petroleum sector to more foreign investments. Brunei, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam have an estimated 31.4 billion barrels of proven oil reserves and 309.5 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves as of 2013.
An ROV, or Remotely Operated Vehicle, is an underwater robot that is controlled from the surface by remote control and tethered to a vessel by an umbilical cable. ROVs can be used for a variety of different tasks, from observation to repair work and trenching, in areas difficult for humans to reach. Different vehicle types are used depending on the use. An ROV Pilot is the person responsible for controlling the vehicle’s movements using a camera attached to the ROV to see what they are doing.
