One of the few OECD countries that is a significant net hydrocarbon exporter, Australia contains impressive quantities of petroleum, natural gas and coal reserves and exports roughly two-thirds of its total energy production. Australia, which has major offshore natural gas fields feeding the Gorgon, Wheatstone and Pluto LNG developments, is the word's fifth-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas. As of 2009, Australia holds proven oil reserves of 1.5 billion barrels and some 30 Tcf of proven natural gas reserves.

Well testing is a planned acquisition of data from the reservoir of a well. The data gathered is then used to determine a well’s capacity for producing oil or gas.
