Chevron Products Company is accepting online applications for the position of Quality Control Operator located in Richmond, CA through September 29, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
This position will provide chemistry information, analytical methods, testing service, instrument troubleshooting and repair, consulting for main and process laboratories, as well as Operations. . Its priority is to analyze all finished product samples to ensure excellent quality. Quality Control Department is also responsible for ensuring that samples meet all ASTM, CARB, ERP and Chevron Product Quality requirements. Quality Control Department is a 24/7 operation, Lab Operators are required to work shift work, 12 hour shifts, typically working 14 out of 28 days per month.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Performs a wide variety of tests on refinery process samples and finished products per established procedures
  • Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity, color, and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing, automatic distillation and titration, gas chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, etc.
  • Learn and performs approximately 180 different tests following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation ASTM, CARB or EPA testing methods, and other methodologies
  • Checks test results against specifications. Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to insure accuracy and precision of results
  • Validates data, performs calculations, and reports test results
  • Checks and calibrates equipment, reviews test methods, and performs preventive or corrective maintenance
  • Strong problem solving skills.  Identifies risks and takes action to eliminate
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • This position requires driving on a routine basis


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 years of college chemistry or 3 years of full analytical laboratory testing experience is required
  • Able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Good computer skills and problem solving ability
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven track record in Safety and Reliability
  • Strong problem solving skills. Identifies risks and takes action to eliminate
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) or Technology (Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing), including college chemistry.
  • Refinery/Chemical Plant Process Operations experience
