Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Power & Process is currently recruiting for an Area HSSE Manager to be located in our Tucker, GA office.  The position of Area HSSE Manager reports directly to the Director of HSSE for the Amec Foster Wheeler PPA Construction Group. The position calls for candidates with passion and drive. This is a mid to senior level role that requires a high level of commitment and dedication to the health and well being of others in our industry. The ideal candidate will have education, training, and experience in the fields of occupational safety and health commensurate with the desired position. This includes experience with behavior based programs and concepts, training, injury management, program development, personnel management, leadership development, site management, supervisor engagement, client interaction, management counsel, injury care, and other HSSE experience that may not be listed here.


Key Responsibilities

  • To actively seek and correct the gaps between good safety performance and great safety performance
  • Positively influence all stakeholders by action, belief and conviction in the human system of safety management
  • Improve performance by setting an example of no compromise safety excellence
  • Provide technical and behavioral leadership and guidance to PPA locations including, but not limited to, North America. May occasionally include other International locations based on upcoming projects
  • Develop new and periodically review current PPA HSSE policies and procedures, making recommendations for improvement
  • Lead and support development and implementation of HSSE management systems
  • Utilize the Amec Foster Wheeler global audit protocols for all PPA locations
  • Assure compliance with and update the Emergency Planning protocols
  • Lead or participate in investigation of incidents, prepare incident report(s)
  • Keep senior management informed of the health and safety status of the company
  • Assist in the planning, recognition, evaluation and mediation of risk for PPA
  • Complete performance reviews for sub contractor selection for PPA Engineering and Consultancy
  • Maintain expert knowledge and assure compliance with all applicable legislative and client requirements for PPA locations
  • Periodically visit PPA locations primarily in the US & Canada. Travel approximately 60% of time
  • Conduct HSSE training for PPA as needed
  • Participant in various leadership initiatives currently established in PPA
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with PPA employees 
  • Manage worker compensation data and reporting with internal and external support (including, but not limited to; claims processing, return to work, light duty assignment closure of claims and resolving discrepancies as needed)
  • Compile and share safety lessons learned across PPA

Skills / Qualifications

  • Internationally recognized B.S Degree in safety or health or equivalent. Must have a recognized Health & Safety Certification (such as ASP, CSP, CHST, OHST...etc) 
  • 12 to 15 years experience in industrial HSSE (covering industrial hygiene, loss prevention and risk management) of which at least 2 to 5 years should be at Corporate or Department Managerial level
  • Broad understanding of Engineering & Services industry HSSE & compliance requirements
  • Strong influential, leadership & organizational skills
  • Effective oral & written communication skills including computer skills (MS office)
  • Ability to develop self & others

Physical Demands

  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing no more than 50 pounds
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the responsibilities and duties as identified above
  • Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas
  • Must have full range of motion consistent with age
  • May be required consistently to work 12+ hour shifts performing construction based labor in varying temperature extremes and conditions
  • May be required, on occasion, to work up to 16 hours in a single shift
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on stairs, ladders, scaffolds and steel framework
  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job related noises
  • Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces
