Responsibilities:

Position Summary

  • Define and implement areas of responsibility for subordinates
  • Organize and staff engineering function within limits of approved company policy
  • Guide and assist subordinates in the application of generally accepted engineering principles, design concepts, material applications, survey techniques and analytical reporting techniques
  • Hire, train and develop employees to execute engineering department functions
  • Instruct and advise employees regarding policies and procedures affecting the work environment
  • Maintain harmonious employee relations and resolve complaints where justified
  • Complete annual employee performance evaluations
  • Consult district Operations Manager on justifiable salary revisions, employee promotions and terminations
  • Execute mutually-agreed actions on employee relations

Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Responsible for direction and coordination of engineering and technical services
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for all engineering and technical staff
  • Plan and direct field efforts for effective coordination with sales and construction operations
  • Provide data to the district manager in the preparation of each year's engineering budget.
  • Engineering Administration
  • Confer and cooperate with sales and construction personnel on matters of mutual concern
  • Interact with customers on technical issues requiring specialized skills or data interpretation
  • Provide specifications for materials and testing used for construction estimates
  • Monitor engineering aspects of system installations and resolve technical difficulties
  • Specify and initiate procurement of field instrumentation

Project Administration

  • Organize, schedule, coordinate personnel and assign subcontractors to projects to obtain most effective utilization of resources and meet commitments to customers
  • Review preliminary survey, design data and proposals with engineering staff
  • Discuss project objectives, specify expectations, suggest appropriate methods and procedures
  • Direct engineering activities to successfully complete project within time/budgetary estimates
  • Visit jobsite to provide technical guidance to ensure successful execution of the work
  • Review and edit engineering reports, discuss and implement revisions to subordinates' analytical conclusions and recommendations and ensure all engineering documents are technically correct

Business Development

  • Approve pricing, scheduling and personnel commitments for all engineering proposals
  • Prepare and transmit engineering proposals requiring specialized skills or data interpretation
  • Analyze drawings and specification and determine type and nature of structure involved and physical features of facility
  • Consider location of site, personnel requirements and availability and adjust customary fees as circumstances warrant in specific situations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in periodic sales meetings and new product seminars
  • Implement and monitor compliance with company safety program for engineering personnel
  • Arrange and schedule routine instrument maintenance and calibration
  • Attend meetings and conferences to remain informed of developments in corrosion theory
  • Assist in the collection efforts for delinquent customer accounts
  • Participate in field engineering on unique projects or as dictated by engineering backlog
  • Confer with customer personnel, visit facilities and conduct meetings as necessary
  • Operate and maintain company vehicle and equipment safely at all times
  • Report vehicle and equipment maintenance requirements to Operations Manager
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of company equipment
  • Inform Operations Manager at every fiscal year of new capital expense requirement
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

B.S. in Engineering, Engineering Technology, approved Science or related degree. At least 7 to 12 years of cathodic protection work with 0-2 years of supervisory experience. Professional Engineer (P.E.) License required. NACE certification as a Corrosion Specialist or CP4 required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals;

effectively present information to individuals or groups (management, clients, customers, general public) and respond to questions.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic and geometric concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volumes, etc.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

In performing the duties for this job, the employee will generally work in an office type environment but will occasionally be required to work in outside weather conditions (occasionally near job sites with moving vehicles and mechanical operations). Will be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate. Travel by automobile and airplane required.
