Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for an Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor with extensive experience in the Mining and Minerals industry. In this three (3) month assignment you will be required to do the following:


  • Ensure that the electrical construction is completed in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Be responsible for the contract management of contractors with respect to site instructions, variation orders, invoice approval, claim notifications, daily diary records, people on site, equipment on site etc.
  • Complete estimates and tenders for new work
  • Ensure the correctness of the electrical installation with respect to the drawings and legal requirements
  • Check protection devices and ensure their correct operation
  • To have a thorough understanding of permit to work practices and lockout procedures
  • To supervise functionality checks
  • To resolve day-to-day technical electrical queries

Skills / Qualifications

  • Must have minimum of 10 years’ working experience in an electrical construction environment as a manager, preferably within the resources/minerals processing industry
  • Knowledgeable in OHS Act, Mines Health and Safety Act and SANS 10142
  • Knowledgeable in safe switching practices, from HV to LV
  • Familiriaty with Intelligent motor starters, variable speed drives and PLC system
  • Have thorough knowledge of electrical installation estimation
  • Knowledgeable in handling of contracts and contract management
  • Have a thorough knowledge of materials and stores control
  • Competent in cable sizing and a good understanding of electrical calculations
  • Understanding of cost and financial implications of decisions made, as these relate to a project
  • Working knowledge of AutoCad
  • Able to read and understand electrical and other technical drawings
  • Advanced computer literacy skills in MS Office
  • Experience in managing relationships with clients, contractors and service providers
  • Excellent English verbal & written language skills
  • Ability to travel locally and/or internationally, as required
  • Ability to work and live in hardship locations, as required, when visiting project sites
