Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is recruiting for a Senior/Principal Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our team in Chelmsford, MA. This experienced professional will market, win and execute air permitting projects for existing industrial clients and proposed industrial development. This role will have the opportunity for development into a leadership position.


Key Responsibilities


  • Air permitting and modeling for industrial and governmental clients, and potential industrial development
  • Project management and team development
  • Technical review and mentoring of junior staff
  • Development of technical approach, selection of technical tools, and direction of project team
  • Regulatory agency strategy and negotiations
  • Marketing and business development for air permitting work
  • Client management and development
  • Coordination with site development teams

Skills / Qualifications


  • BS in Chemical/Mechanical/Civil/Environmental Engineering or other technical field, MS in Environmental Engineering a plus
  • Working expertise of the various forms of air dispersion models, including Air Mod and pre-processors - Ability to provide air quality modeling support including review of input and output data, processing of meteorological data, and execution of models
  • Technical experience with emissions calculations, air modeling, and regulations
  • Knowledge or experience in several of the following air permitting areas: New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD assessments), Title V permitting, Development of annual air emission inventories (AEI, SARA 313), Best Available Control Technology (BACT) or Lowest Achievable Emission Achievable Rate (LAER) evaluations
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply information on State and Federal Air rules, technical guidance, and regulations, and compliance determinations
  • Ability to conduct technical and regulatory review of Emission Statements, Operating Permits, Preconstruction Permits, and Stack Test Reports
  • Knowledge and firm understanding of federal air quality regulations
  • Prior experience conducting air quality compliance projects in Massachusetts and surrounding states
  • Minimum of 10 to15 years’ experience in environmental engineering and air permitting
  • Professional Engineer or other professional certification is a plus
  • Exceptional skills in the areas of: Project Management, Technical Writing and Process Engineering
  • Strong computer skills and computational abilities
  • Demonstrated success in client management and development
  • Prior consulting experience
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
