Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking an Environmental Engineer for our growing Mobile Office to become an integral member of our team along the Gulf Coast. Amec Foster Wheeler is a global multi-disciplined engineering, environmental, and construction services consulting firm. Our Gulf Coast area has more than 200 employees in 6 offices throughout the northern Gulf Coast. We are routinely awarded contracts on a regional and national level for the government, commercial, industrial, transportation, water, energy, and mining sectors.

 Key Responsibilities

The position will involve all facets of environmental remediation including, but not limited to, due diligence projects, contamination assessment, demolition projects, remedial design of treatment facilities, and operation and maintenance support. This position offers the opportunity to work with a large and diverse team of design engineers to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles/responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Soil and Groundwater Assessment field activities
  • Analyze and interpret environmental data and prepare related reports
  • Prepare engineering evaluations and feasibility studies, design treatment systems, and develop conceptual cost estimates
  • Prepare Work Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Feasibility Studies, and Remedial Action Plans
  • Prepare environmental permit applications (e.g., air permitting, wastewater discharge permitting, etc.)
  • Review plans, specifications and special provisions for remediation projects
  • Review and comment on contractor submittals
  • Track payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals
  • Conduct construction closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, record drawings, and contract closeout

Skills / Qualifications


  • BS in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of design or construction experience with a focus on environmental applications in site remediation, wastewater treatment, or similar
  • Engineer-Intern (EI) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites - Anticipated travel expected to be less than 10% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible at times
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required 


  • Experience preparing engineering cost estimates, and various environmental permit applications
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-starter and lifelong learner
