Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler’s Mining business is seeking an Instrumentation Coordinator in the Commissioning group at our Legacy project site near Bethune, SK. The successful candidate will liaise with the construction management team, home office enginenering support, client, and contractor personnel in order to successfully support the commissioning stage of the project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of detailed plans, procedures, and instructions at the early stages of the project
  • Assist in the logical definition of turnover systems for the project, including:  process, utilities, safety, undergrounds and non-process related systesm
  • Define sequencing and schedule for systems turnover
  • Prepare project specifications, procedures and work instructions related to commissioning activities
  • Assist with the preparation of pre-commissioning equipment files
  • Coordinate the testing and commissioning of critical equipment with vendors
  • Coordinate the transfer of care, custody and control of systems to client, ensuring client signatures and acceptance of Commissioning Completion Certificates
  • Direct execution of commissioning activities
  • Lead the commissioning field execution team in supporting the development of guidelines outlining the vendor's and sub-contractor's documentation requirements
  • ensure commissioning activities are performed following all HSE&E codes (Managing the Control of Hazardous Energy) and are performed in a safe manner
  • ensure all commissioning field execution team personnel are properly trained and capable of working under the ever-changing conditions of equipment and installations in the construction-commissioning-commissioning-startup-normal operation environment
  • Monitor progress of commissioning activities and report any schedule impacts
  • Ensure proper planning and authorization is in place prior to energizing any system
  • Ensure the appropriate personnel are assigned to participate in the identification, procurement and use of commissioning spares
  • Audit all final turnover documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide technical support to Amec Foster Wheeler engineering, construction and project sub-contractors whenever activities relating to Instrumentation are to be performed

Skills / Qualifications


  • Database experience in QA and Completions
  • Minimum 10 years' combined experience in construction, QA, completions and commissioning
  • Certification in Instrumentation is required (could be journeyman status, technical certificate or degree)
  • Proven understanding of LOTO, site safety and permitting requirements as applied to the completion and/or commissioning scope of work
  • Prior experience on large industrial projects
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Capable of traveling both domestically and internationally in order to support inspections of instrumentation equipments
