Department Description

Universal Pressure Pumping, Inc. provides pressure pumping and well services to oil and gas exploration and production companies in Texas.

Brief Description

The Driver Trainer is responsible for providing support to all DOT aspects of the business including training new hires and existing drivers in driving-related tasks and duties, providing support for clerical staff in assuring that all driver qualifications and training are complete, providing any and all support needed in dispatch and the DOT logging department, and ensuring DOT and State compliance in all areas of driving-related tasks. This position will work under the direction of the DOT Compliance Manager with a dotted reporting line to the Operations Manager and/or District Manager.

Detailed Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Train new entrant drivers in the safe operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle, including all required documentation (ex: logs, pre/post-trips, journey management paperwork, and hazmat documentation)
  • Train and verify qualifications of designated Crew Van Drivers, including all required documentation
  • Train existing CDL holders and annual refresher training
  • Conduct decision driving and commentary drives for all employees driving a company vehicle
  • Assist with driver file audits as needed
  • Perform spot check inspections on equipment and drivers entering/exiting the yards and field locations
  • Perform monthly crew van and crew driver audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Key Relevant Tasks:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with all employees at different levels both in the office and in the field
  • Good organizational and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of safety training programs, safety regulations and requirements, and applicable laws
  • Understanding DOT rules and regulations
  • Able to provide clerical support in assuring all driver qualifications, trainings, and other testing are complete

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable related work experience in safety training and/or compliance work, safe driving, and driver training experience
  • Valid Class A CDL with a minimum of tanker endorsements, a clear driving record for the past 3 years, with no DWI convictions within the past 5 years, and no current DWI charges
  • Ability to perform all duties associated with driver training which will include an expertise in presentations and basic Microsoft Office programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical training or college-level education
  • HazMat endorsement
  • Previous experience as a Truck Driver Trainer or Instructor at an accredited institute or verifiable place of work.
  • Understanding of OSHA rules and regulations

Working Conditions:

Employee must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others, including coworkers and third parties, including wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all designated times. This position requires the employee to work outdoors for long periods of time in all types of weather conditions typical of the area where the job is located, including dust, humidity, sleet, snow, rain, mud, cold, heat, wind, and other inclement weather. Working conditions for this position may involve exposure to varying outdoor conditions, including environmental chemicals, gases, noise, dampness, fumes, radiation and heights. Employee must be able to work closely with others in the confined area of the job, in a fast-paced team environment, and work independently when required or directed, taking initiative when necessary. Employee must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, to make job related calculations; basic computer skills are necessary. Employee must demonstrate clear communication skills including ability to read, write and speak English, and to promptly follow verbal and written directions in English. This position requires bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and crawling on uneven surfaces, and climbing equipment ladders or stairs throughout the work shift. This position requires the following: basic keyboarding or other small motor skills a majority of the time (50% - 75% of the time), operation of heavy equipment or vehicles almost always (> 75% of the time), lifting/pushing objects (50 lbs max) a majority of the time (50% - 75% of the time), climbing or working in awkward or cramped positions a majority of the time (50% - 75% of the time), working nights and/or weekends occasionally (25% - 50% of the time), to be on-call 24 hours per day a majority of the time (50% - 75% of the time), as well as walking or standing for prolonged periods a majority of the time (50% - 75% of the time).
