29611BR Specialist - Local Statutory Reporting India Chennai The aim of the Shell Business Operations, Chennai is to provide the Group with operational excellence through highlighting and utilizing process improvements and functional efficiencies as well as by leveraging economies of scale. Currently, the Chennai centre provides a wide range of finance, accounting and business services to Shell operating companies across several business sectors globally.
Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now , in its fourth year of operations , it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the  RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a LEED Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.
The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a ‘Downstream India’ - Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Shell Business Operations (SBO Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners’ operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBO on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect. Local statutory reporting generally represents annual or periodic financial statements required by the local statutes of countries where there is a business establishment.

Work in a team of highly qualified finance professionals and play a key role in the following areas in Local Statutory Reporting (LSR).
 
 

  • Ensuring timely preparation, audit and filing of statutory accounts.
  • Working with external audit firms including senior managers, directors & partners pertaining to multiple countries and offices.
  • Manage co-ordination/support for the audit.
  • Working closely with other teams like tax, legal, transaction processing and various controllers team.
  • Ensuring compliance with standard internal controls associated with the statutory reporting process.
  • Should be focused and result oriented.
  • Ensure timely preparation of Financial Statements and supporting work papers for Legal Entities consistent with the requirements of the appropriate regulatory reporting framework within agreed timelines.
  • Coordinating the statutory audit, which would involve preparing/requesting input, required for audits, validating inputs received and sharing with auditors, coordinating for replies to queries raised by auditors and successfully close out the audit within agreed time.
  • Leads/participates and manages migrations of a wide range of additional new scope of statutory reporting activities and ensures optimization of activity execution and resources

The role is technically demanding and requires in-depth knowledge of accounting concepts, international and country specific accounting standards and audit process.

Managing peak period while ensuring seamless and timely delivery of financial statements and filing of statutory reports (financial statements).

Managing interfaces with external statutory auditors during peak auditing periods are challenging

  • Knowledge and experience in handling local statutory reporting process (including co-ordination of statutory audits)
  • Post qualification experience of 2-5 years (Prior experience in statutory financial reporting is highly preferable)
  • Good technical accounting skills (IFRS, and Other Country’s GAAP like UK GAAP, Dutch GAAP etc, would be most useful) and analytical skills to appreciate accounting impact of complex business events..
  • Expertise in engaging with multiple & multicultural stakeholders and coordinate with them effectively to ensure timely completion of statutory reports.
  • Expertise in using MS Excel and MS Word is necessary. In addition, exposure to one or more ERP systems (preferably SAP or SUN system) is an added advantage.
  • Awareness of tax computation and compliances for large multinational organisations is an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) as well as presentation & articulation skills demonstrated in business environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Individual should be proactive and a creative thinker, looking beyond the scope of requests being made.
