ABB is seeking Transformer Field Service Supervisor/Lead Testers to analyze requirements and assess changes for transformer equipment, and consult and negotiate with customers regarding installation, modification, and repair of Transformer equipment and products in customer field locations. Travel 90% required.

You'll work as part of our Power Products team, which engineers solutions and products such as switchgear, capacitors, distribution, and traction transformers. We're the world's largest supplier of transformers and recently developed the highest-voltage direct current (DC) transformer ever.

Typical duties/responsibilities for field service may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills. Construct complex prototype models or simulated systems, as requested

• Provide leadership in the assembly and operation of laboratory and field service equipment. Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures. Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports

• Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying own knowledge and experience. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs, and assist in determining resource requirements

• Lead the performance of assigned field services projects such as non-destructive examinations and analysis. May be responsible for direction, analysis and reports involving complex test projects

• Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions
Associate Degree in electrical engineering or engineering program and 5 years of field service or testing experience ; OR
GED or High School diploma and 7 years of field service or testing experience
Alternatively, this position may be filled at the senior level for the successful candidate meeting these basic qualification:
Associate Degree in electrical engineering or engineering program and 9 years of field service or testing experience ; OR
GED or High School diploma and 11 years of field service or testing experience
- Experience leading field project activities
- Experience with field service operations and transformer testing
- Knowledgeable and fully fluent in transformer installation and assembly
- Strong vacuum and oil processing understanding
- Familiarity with shell and/or core form transformer designs and components internal to the transformer
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand standard and complex winding configurations and vector diagrams
- Experience welding above and below oil on transformer tanks
- Load Tap Changer (LTC) maintenance and repair knowledge
- Ability to act as the lead on field projects while communicating clearly and professionally to ABB's customer base
- Ability to prepare field service job/trip reports using Microsoft Word
