Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler currently have an opportunity for a Substation Electrical Design Manager to be based at the Horsham or London Wall office. The scope of work will be electrical substation projects.



  • Ensure ongoing management of engineering delivery and outputs across all contracts for your allocated external clients*

  • Ensure coordination of our design offering across all projects for our client organisations to ensure they receive a consistent level of delivery.

  • Ensure continuous improvement in respect of delivery for the clients and make sure lessons learnt are understood and feedback across the team.

  • Ensure delivery of engineering deliverables in accordance to the contract requirements and in accordance with the project needs.

  • Provide client engineering delivery single point of contact for contracts

  • Manage the development and delivery of substation contracts

  • Support the business acquisition and subsequent growth for substations

  • Ensure integration and close cooperation between substation engineering and operations.

  • This role will provide the leadership and support across all clients and projects in respect to substation delivery.
  • Accept ownership of work to be done (i.e. being required to undertake specific actions within an agreed job boundary, the execution of a delegated task, activity, or process).

    Including but not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining the customer plan for you clients

  • Ensuring project progress is in line with programme and budget

  • Ensuring all potential issues along with a possible corrective strategy are communicated to the project team and the client

  • Ensuring performance of Lead Engineers allocated to your projects or framework

  • Having the obligation and authority to deliver results (i.e. being liable for agreed results to be achieved, the power to enable it, the obligation to achieve in accordance with the agreed standards.)

  • Individual responsibilities:

  • Ensuring weekly and Monthly reporting on progress on each project in your area

  • Ensuring changes are managed on each contract and that the impacts are clearly recorded, communicated, and agreed

  • Ensure mandatory documents on each contract are prepared in accordance with internal procedures and the contract in a timely manner, and worked to during delivery.

Skills / Qualifications


  • Formal engineering qualification from further education



  • Membership to an engineering institution
