Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting a Payroll Process Owner to work within European Finance Shared Services in our Darlington office. The role would focus initially on the NECIS (Northern Europe & CIS) region and reports directly to the Head of Europe Finance Shared Services.



  • Support the Head of Finance Shared Services in leading a common systems strategy, standardisation of payroll policy and processes, change management and transition in line with the Global Business Services model
  • To ensure an efficient and effective service to Amec Foster Wheeler Business Units and Operating Units 
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the business and geographies to ensure processes and over-arching governance and design is appropriate and fit for purpose 

Key Aims & Objectives

  • Lead the design and overall solution (to include process, technology, data, policy, controls and risk management framework) for our end to end payroll processes to support global standardisation 
  • Refine payroll policy and procedures to reflect changes in processes and ensure strong governance and compliance 
  • Facilitate a culture of change and continuous improvement within GBS and the businesses
  • Establishing Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements to ensure consistent and cohesive services to the business 
  • Lead the end to end payroll process by collaborating with other workstreams in the ERP implementation programme to ensure that the overall programme is delivered efficiently
  • Payroll Lead for COINS to Teamspirit payroll implementation ensuring the Payroll workstream is managed according to agreed delivery schedules, within budget and to agreed quality standards 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Support the Head of Payroll as and when required
  • Support the businesses and other Global Business Services process owners
  • Support the EFSS Functional Leads during the Teamspirit payroll solution implementation 
  • Ensure compliance with Amec Foster Wheeler policies and procedures i.e. SOX, DOA
  • Check and approve payments as appropriate 
  • Liaise with internal and external audit 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience of multi-country payroll projects in complex environments
  • Implementation experience of global payroll projects 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Track record of driving change and continuous improvement within a Shared Services function
  • Ability to communicate well at all levels 
  • Relevant payroll qualifications
  • Confident with Microsoft Office including advanced Excel
