Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is recruiting for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer, specializing in mining environmental projects (tailings dams, water management system, waste rock, open pit, infrastructure, etc.), to join our team in Mississauga, Ontario.


Key Responsibilities  

  • Provide engineering and project management services on a variety of civil, geotechnical projects with a mining focus
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports which may include; design, analyses, geotechnical subsurface investigations, dam and hydraulic structure design, tailings deposition planning, earthworks design, slope stability analysis, construction documents and management of construction monitoring services
  • Work as an integral team member in a multi-discipline environment
  • Consult on tailings and mine waste management projects for North American and International clients
  • Lead project teams and tasks, working with other professionals, to deliver high quality reports on time and within budget
  • Liaise with other technical specialists including hydrogeologists, hydrologists, geochemists, rock mechanics, environmental, and other disciplines
  • Manage contractors and sub-consultants
  • Provide direction and training of junior geotechnical engineering staff
  • Establish and maintain client relationships

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering; Graduate Degree (MSc., M. Eng, Ph.D.) preferred but not required
  • At least 7+ years’ experience in geotechnical (mining, infrastructure, waste consulting)
  • Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface explorations and in writing geotechnical reports and technical communications
  • Proven capabilities working productively in project teams
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills are essential
  • Strong Business Development and Client Relations skills
  • Willingness to travel as directed by project requirements
  • Registration or Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer
