Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a Senior Railroad Project Manager for the Railroad Transportation / Infrastructure Program in the Chicago office. The successful candidates’ primary duties may include aspects of rail infrastructure planning, facility and track design, field inspection, surveying, project and construction management including client interaction and participation on rail related freight, passenger railand transit projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Will serve in a technical capacity role under the direction of the Rail Sector Program Principal Engineer in various levels of detailed planning, design engineering, field inspection and surveying
  • Project and construction management of railroad related projects, depending upon level of experience
  • Duties may include inspection, planning, execution, and monitoring of projects and design activities including rail related construction projects
  • Track or structure inspection and design and construction submittal review for various agencies
  • Work may also include the assembly of conceptual, preliminary, design development and final plans, specifications and construction documents, cost estimation and project schedules for design projects  

  • Project involvement will range from site visits, feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase activities

  • Specific projects will include freight rail yard track and route I mainline design, maintenance and repair shop facility design, bulk and intermodal terminal design, mining railroad layouts along with feasibility studies, and passenger rail and transit track design

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Masters of Civil Engineering are preferred
  • 10+ years experience in Railroad Engineering and related projects
  • With PE license
  • Freight, Bulk Terminal, lnter-modal and Transit Facility Experience
  • Track Design and layout
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • MS Office, Bentley GEOPAK and Power Rail Track
  • Knowledge of AREMA Railway Engineering Standards, FRA regulations and AAR best practices
  • Experience with various Freight and Passenger Railroad Standards, methods and practices is desired
