Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment and Infrastructure is seeking a junior to mid-level Field Technician to join our specialty pavement consultancy based in Beltsville, MD (metro Washington, DC). We are seeking disciplined, motivated candidates equally comfortable on solo assignments as working in teams of 2-5 technicians and engineers. Key Responsibilities

  • Candidates are trained in a variety of field operations to evaluate the condition of roadway, airfield, terminals and other pavement networks
  • Projects are generally for existing infrastructure and only occasionally for facilities under construction
  • Field work is performed using data collection trucks & vans, and by manual methods while walking
  • Operate specialized data collection vehicles using computerized imaging, laser and mechanical systems
  • Duties include daily equipment checks & calibration, routine system maintenance and daily reporting
  • Reads maps & schematic plans to collect data with GPS receivers, digital cameras, and measuring wheels
  • Participates in subsurface investigations by coring and boring when necessary
  • Supports multiple projects and working with different project managers
  • Communicate and coordinates as necessary with clients to gain access to project sites, including secure facilities

Skills / Qualifications

  • Associate degree in civil engineering, construction, electronics, computer science or similar and demonstrated applicable work experience is preferred
  • Candidates with a high school diploma plus comparable experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 2-3 years technical education and / or experience is required at the junior level
  • 5+ years of technical education and / or experience will be considered at the intermediate level
  • Excellent Computer skills and ability to learn computerized equipment operation is essential and must have an experience with Word, Excel, web searching, file copying and transferring
  • Knowledge or experience with any aspect of pavement evaluation, design or construction is an advantage
  • Experience with any of CAD / GIS mapping, handheld computers, GPS data collection, facilities condition inspection or surveying is an advantage
  • Walking during site inspections (up to full days)
  • Ability to lift 20 - 40 lbs
  • Must pass drug screen, background check and employment check
  • Must have an excellent driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
  • Can operate full size pick-up trucks and full size vans and some operations involve towing a trailer
  • Involves considerable local, regional and national travel including overnight
  • Involves traveling international, passport may be required
  • Some night and weekend work required
  • US citizenship required
