Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a Field Chemist to perform, under the direction of a project manager, environmental field investigations, report writing and other project related tasks associated with site investigation activities at a dynamic and evolving project site located in Grafton County/ Lebanon, New Hampshire area.         


Position will require residence within the Grafton County/ Lebanon, NH area           


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work under the direction of a senior scientist to investigate and monitor the nature and extent of soil vapor and indoor air contamination
  • Field work will include collection and analysis of soil vapor and indoor air using an Inficon Hapsite ER portable GS / MS
  • Maintaining the onsite QC analytical program, reporting analytical results on a daily basis
  • Maintain excel results database and perform general maintenance tasks of the analytical instrument

Skills / Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years environmental consulting experience              
  • BS / BA in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or one of the physical or natural sciences
  • Experience with operation and use of gas chromatographs and / or gas chromatography / mass spectrometers (GC / MS) is desired
  • Experience with the collection and analysis of soil vapor and ambient air samples as applied to site investigations is desired
  • Experience in hazardous waste site investigations
  • OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Site Safety Training (will provide if needed)
  • Will need to coordinate with Project Chemist on a daily basis
  • Need to be able to move and lift equipment that may weigh 30 lbs. on a daily basis
  • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research and documentation
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
  • The ideal candidate for this position is enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical
  • Previous field experience and OSHA 40 HAZWOPER certified is preferred
