Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler’s Power and Process business performs consulting and EPCM services for many of Canada’s gas processing, power generation, and power distribution companies. 


Amec Foster Wheeler currently have a senior leadership opportunity for a Manager, Construction Services. Reporting to the Operations Manager, Transmission & Distribution, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for overseeing the coordination of construction management capabilities, resources and utilization on projects across the Power & Process Transmission & Distribution group.  If you have a successful track record for growing a business through implementing innovative strategies within construction management, this is the opportunity for you.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the coordination of construction management capabilities, resources and utilization across the Transmission and Distribution group in Western Canada
  • Developing and implementing suitable staff recruiting initiatives, training, development, and succession plans for construction management and specialist staff
  • Monitoring construction management activities with respect to performance, procedure, and making recommendations to project managers for improvements and corrective action
  • Implementing construction, safety, health and environmental policies and procedures for both Amec Foster Wheeler and its’ clients
  • Ensuring that quality assurance and ISO standards are met on all construction related activities
  • Reviewing and providing input on policies and procedures governing project management, project controls, engineering and procurement that impact construction activities
  • Mentoring, coaching, training and evaluating members of the Construction team
  • Overseeing construction site management plans for: Safety Management Plan, the site Environmental Management Plan, Quality Management Plan, Request for Information, Change Notices, Non-Conformance Reports, commissioning and energizing processes, As-Built completions and contract compliance
  • Assisting the project management team with scope of work portion of contracts, bid evaluation, land owner concerns, vegetation or access issues, constructability reviews and creating the construction schedule, including identifying outages as required
  • Implementing departmental strategies to improve overall departmental performance
  • Establishing and maintaining Amec Foster Wheeler T&D relationships with clients and other 3rd parties
  • Ensuring construction resources are allocated appropriately to ensure scheduling and budget issues are minimized
  • Overseeing the site monitoring and auditing of construction and materials management documentation to ensure that the facilities are being constructed to meet the quality specifications
  • Managing and improving departmental reporting and communication channels



Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or MBA
  • More than 5 years construction experience with transmission and distribution or electrical projects including at least 15 years increasing responsibility as a Construction Manager
  • Proven track record in organizational development
  • EPC experience a definite asset
  • Proven track record of successful project completion on time and on budget, exceeding expectations
  • A willingness to travel, for varying durations and at times to remote locations in Western Canada
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, coaching and collaboration skills
  • Ability to create and implement innovative strategies that foster company growth and diversification
  • Results oriented with the capacity to successfully manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, organizational, audit and investigation skills
  • Demonstrated effective leadership interacting with multiple internal disciplines and external customers in areas of civil, structural and electrical design
