Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure currently has an opportunity available for an Environmental Scientist in our Portland, ME office. We are looking for a candidate with 2-5 years’ experience with skills in geology and / or hydrology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analytical data validation, data review and report writing
  • Development of environmental sampling programs, interpretation of environmental chemistry data and data quality evaluation (DQE), data forensics, assistance with laboratory coordination, database support and data entry
  • Assistance to proposal teams for selection of analytical methodology, evaluation laboratory proposals and establishment of QA / QC parameters
  • Coordination with Junior and / or Senior Chemist on a daily basis
  • Working knowledge of development of project data quality objectives
  • Support project teams with field work to support environmental sampling programs

Skills / Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Chemistry
  • Familiarity with Word, Access, Excel, ADR and / or EQuIS software
  • 2 – 5 years of experience with operation and use of analytical laboratory equipment (e.g., GC, GC / MS, ICP) is preferred
  • Familiarity with USEPA Methods including SW-846, CLP and Standard Methods is desired
  • Experience in hazardous waste site investigations is preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research and documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
  • The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical
  • OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Site Safety Training preferred but not required
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move and lift equipment that can weigh up to 50 lbs
