Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a GIS / Relational Database Technician in Portland, ME to perform GIS and data management related tasks.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support Environmental Engineering / Scientific Staff with graphics and design details required to support document deliverables for client and / or regulatory agencies
  • Develop and maintain Geo-databases for GIS-related projects, linking relational SQL and MS Access databases to support GIS applications
  • Maintain relational MS Access databases for environmental projects, querying data to generate output for client deliverables
  • Manage and manipulating data within the Geo-database and external data sources (SQL and MS Access)
  • Supporting Environmental Engineering / Scientific Staff with mobile applications for field data collection and testing
  • Perform routine GIS related data maintenance tasks utilizing ESRI based applications
  • Perform routine data maintenance tasks utilizing MS Access
  • Perform various GIS and database functions (i.e., perform queries, create maps, create tables, etc.)
  • Utilizing digital data collection devices, PC tablets, and GPS methods
  • Support office staff with mobile device applications (data collection forms)
  • Perform GIS data layer development, qualitative/quantitative analysis and mapping
  • Produce detailed, high-quality cartographic products (digital and hardcopy) and accompanying reports in accordance with technical guidelines and client needs
  • Communicate with project team members and other stakeholders to define data needs, project requirements and desired outputs
  • Compile, manipulate and refine geographic data from a variety of sources including but not limited to field observation, digital aerial photographs, existing maps and online data sources
  • Compile, manipulate and refine environmental data from a variety of sources including but not limited to field measurement devices, mobile application field forms, laboratory test results
  • Perform regular quality control checks of GIS and non-spatial databases to ensure data integrity with minimal supervision

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of GIS / relational database management experience
  • AS / BS in GIS or related field
  • Knowledge of online data resources
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (UBA, Python, etc.)
  • Proficiency using ESRI suite of software
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access relational databases
  • Familiarity of environmental data collection and analysis helpful
  • Experience in producing high-quality digital and hardcopy maps and project graphics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Resourceful and self-motivated
