Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking a Mid-Level GIS Analyst to be located in our Durham, NC office.  This position requires the candidate to have excellent leadership skills and the ability to coordinate directly with other GIS team members.  The candidate will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of clients, including: Duke Energy, North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program, US Department of Defense (DoD), and NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT).  The candidate will work directly with management to assist with coordinating daily production, maintaining and tracking project budgets as well as assisting with new business development strategies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with project budget tracking
  • Task manage various GIS initiatives
  • Perform spatial analysis on a wide variety of datasets
  • Coordinate with junior GIS staff with project tasks
  • Create maps and reports for delivery to clients

Skills / Qualifications


  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Geography, GIS or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience with GIS analysis and mapping
  • Strong understanding of GIS ESRI software and data management structures and needs
  • Strong understanding of cartography and cartographic principles
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work alone or within a team


  • Experience and interest in emerging technologies
  • Experience with the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program or FEMA Flood Insurance Studies
  • Experience working with local governments
  • Experience with NCDOT projects
  • Experience working with LiDAR (aerial, mobile or terrestrial)
  • Tool creation using ESRI Model Builder
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python, .NET and Java
  • Time management and multi-tasking ability
