Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Heavy Lifting Engineer/Specialist for an important project in Spain.


The project consists in the revamping of a Vacuum Unit in Refinery in Eastern Spain. This role will suit an experienced Heavy Lifting Engineer/Specialist with proven record of at least 15 years in construction projects in the refinery industry. The successful candidate will be expected to join the position immediately in Madrid for approximately 8 months and then move to SITE being March 2018 the estimated date of finish.



  • Reporting to Home Office Manager (HO Phase) and to the Construction Superintendent (Site phase), the main functions of the role will be to review and validate the Heavy Lifting & Transport Contractor´s drawings, plans and procedures according to company / project specification
  • Review of Heavy Lifting & Transport Plan Plans carried out Vendors, Suppliers and Construction Contractors
  • Participation in meetings or Constructability
  • Preparation of Heavy Lifting & Transport project Plans
  • Study and approval of Project maneuvers
  • To ensure all works are carried out following approved procedures
  • Supervise and coordinate all activities with personnel and equipment engaged in lifting operation in close coordination with HSE, QA / QC and Construction Superintendent
  • To inspect, report and control all aspect of any lifting operation, ensuring full compliance with design, planning and HSE standard
  • Follow site safety rules, practices and assist site team in promoting safety on the site
  • Attend project meetings when required
  • Carry out audit on contractor lifting equipment and certification
  • Must ensure accurate documentation and daily reporting of all activities within scope

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor / Master Degree in a relevant technical discipline will be an advantage
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in HL and HT operations both at home office engineering phase and on site within Oil & Gas, Refinery facilities of the EPCM environment and at least 8 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experienced working in EPC Oil and Gas mega project environment with some major clients involving lifting and transport (particularly SPMT) operations up to 1500te. Experience working in modular project will be an advantage
  • Fully conversant with industry Codes and Standards and HSE Regulations used to govern Management of Heavy Transport and Critical Lift Operations
  • Knowledge of the various limiting devices and safety features
  • Knowledge of different type of crane involved in the project (crawler, mobile etc.)
  • Knowledge of all aspect of lifting study including crane load chart, effect of ground bearing capacity
  • Proficient with the standard computer software packages. Good knowledge of Liccon Job Planner and Cranimax software
  • Excellent command of English languages. Proficiency in Spanish will be an advantage
  • High regard for Environmental Health and Safety culture and practice
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in an articulate manner with clients, consultants and subcontractors
  • Must demonstrate good organizational/leadership and professional abilities and must be a team player
  • Highly motivated, well organized, resourceful and proactive
  • Previous Amec Foster Wheeler experience would be a plus
  • Holding a valid permit to live and work in Spain will be an advantage
  • Immediate availability to join the project
