Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Power & Process currently has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical / Piping Department Manager in our Eastern Region. Reporting to the Eastern Region Director of Engineering, this position is responsible for overseeing department operation for our offices in Tucker, GA and Greenville, SC. This role has overall responsibility for the mechanical / piping department needs including training and development, recruitment, providing engineering leadership and ensuring technical expertise is delivered with the highest degree of quality and integrity. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and hiring of all mechanical / piping resources
  • Overseeing design quality, procedures and consistency
  • Supervising design schedule, productivity and budgets
  • Review / approval of project discipline drawings for all in-house projects
  • Assigning work and evaluating technical competence
  • Instilling the importance of design safety as well as office safety to all department personnel
  • Providing adequate resources to projects and maintaining appropriate staff levels
  • Creating an environment that fosters technical excellence, accuracy and timeliness
  • Promoting a common understanding and commitment to department and project objectives
  • Overseeing the work of staff through the various projects stages – from conceptual studies, detailed design, and construction to pre-commissioning
  • Establishing good working relationships and communication with area leads, project managers, department managers and clients
  • Motivating, guiding and supporting staff
  • Developing and implementing suitable staff recruiting initiatives, training and development plans and succession plans for staff
  • Overseeing the development of mechanical / piping standards, specifications and work practices
  • Providing input and reviewing the execution, approach, scope development, scope of services and estimating of projects and proposals
  • Performance review of personnel and salary compensation and evaluations
  • Working closely with the project management department in assuring staff development

Skills / Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive consulting experience, preferably in an EPC environment
  • Proven experience in process / power is required
  • Demonstrated leadership in mechanical / piping engineering, people management and development and department management abilities
  • An entrepreneurial approach and the ability to take on challenges in a changing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, communication and organizational skills
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized university is ideal but not required
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer in the US is ideal but not required
