AWE Appoints Non-Executive Director

AWE announced the appointment of a new Independent Non-Executive Director, Dr Vijoleta Braach-Maksvytis.

Dr. Braach-Maksvytis has forged a distinguished scientific career in technology, spanning interests across the areas of research, business, science, commercialization, community partnerships and the mentoring of young entrepreneurs and senior executives.

Vijoleta is 53 years old and holds an Honours degree in biochemistry and chemistry from the University of NSW and a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Sydney. She has held numerous board positions focused on the commercialization of technology, was previously Chairman of Melbourne Ventures Pty Ltd and is currently a Non-Executive Director of Orbital Corporation Limited.

Commenting on the appointment, incoming Chairman Bruce Phillips said, "The appointment of Vijoleta Braach-Maksvytis to the board of AWE today is another important step in the evolution of AWE as an energy provider.

"Conventional oil and gas companies like AWE face growing technological and environmental challenges as the demands and expectations of the broader community in which we operate continue to change over time.

"Vijoleta's talent, experience and her network of international contacts in the scientific community provide AWE's board and management with a highly regarded and skilled mentor to help navigate the technological trends emerging in the international energy marketplace."
