The office was officially opened following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement formally establishing the Northern Gas Project Secretariat. The Agreement outlines the key role the NGPS will play in support of the Executive Committee in the areas of logistics, communications, administration and technical service for the environmental impact assessment and regulatory review of the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project. The NGPS will facilitate effective public participation in this process. In particular, it will inform the public on how and when to get involved.
Brian Chambers, PhD was appointed earlier this year as Executive Director of the Secretariat.
The NGPS office will include seven staff members, including an executive director, a finance and administration officer, a logistics coordinator, a communications manager and an information management coordinator. The NGPS Inuvik office will open early in the new year.
The NGPS office is located on the second floor of the Scotia Centre in Yellowknife, and is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
