NPD Grants Consent for Use of Stena Don on Asgard

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Statoil its consent to use Stena Drilling's semisub, Stena Don, within the Asgard license. The rig received the NPD's Acknowledgment of Compliance (AoC) in March 2002.

The purpose of the activity is to drill, complete and maintain subsea wells on the Asgard field.

The operation commences with the drilling of well 6506/12-N01H. The main purpose of this well is to produce oil from the Tilje reservoir on the Smorbukk field.

Statoil's project plan for use of Stena Don describes planned activities until the end of 2004.

The NPD has stipulated the following preconditions for the consent: As stated in the application for consent, the NPD has issued two orders to Stena Don AS following the audit in the period 1-3 September 2003. The NPD is in a dialogue with the company to follow up the above-mentioned orders and to assess new deviations that have been received as a result of the audit. It is a precondition that matters related to these orders are dealt with in a satisfactory manner.
