Dana's Blackbird Flow Rates Soar in UK North Sea

The recently drilled appraisal well on the Blackbird oil field has been flow tested, announced Dana Petroleum. Drilled by the GSF Arctic IV semisub, the 20/2a-9 well reached a total measured depth of 12,000 feet (3,658 meters), targeting a high quality Upper Jurassic oil discovery. After a detailed analysis of the gathered data, it is assessed the well encountered 389 feet (119 meters) of gross pay and 90 feet (27 meters) of net pay of good quality oil-bearing reservoir sands. During the production test, the well produced dry oil at a constrained stable flow rate of 7,000 bopd through a 38/64-inch choke. The well was completed, and will be suspended as a future oil producer. Development plans for Blackbird call for a subsea tie-back to the Ettrick FPSO. Once online, the oil field should add to Ettrick's production rate, extending the field's over all field life. Located 4 miles (6 kilometers) south of the Ettrick field on Block 20/2a, in a water depth of 367 feet (112 meters), is Blackbird. Nexen serves as the operator and holds an 80% working interest; Dana Petroleum holds 12%; and Atlantic Petroleum holds 8.27%.
