ONGC Starts Deep Sea Drilling

ONGC on Sunday kicked off its multi-billion dollar deep sea drilling program off the Gulf of Kutch.

This the first such initiative in India. "Under the Sagar Samriddhi project, Belford Dolphin has spudded its first well in the Gulf of Kutch (GKDW-A-A), about 180 km north-west of Porbander," ONGC Chairman and Managing Director Subir Raha told reporters in Mumbai.

Sagar Samriddhi was the largest deep water exploration program ever undertaken by a single operator worldwide, Raha said.

"We have taken steps to meet a target of a billion tons of hydrocarbon (gas and oil) discovery under this project," he added.
