BP Awards Technip Shah Deniz Contract

TECHNIP has just been awarded by BP the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for the Shah Deniz offshore production and drilling facilities, located some 50 miles offshore in the Caspian Sea.

The Shah Deniz project is an important development for BP, its Partners and for Azerbaijan, as the first stage in securing production of a large gas asset in the Caspian Sea.

The design study, which will be handled by TECHNIP's Upstream Division in Paris, will be based on TECHNIP's proprietary TPG 500 concept - a self-installing fixed platform that has already been successfully installed and operates for BP on the Harding Field and, for TOTALFINAELF on the Elgin Field, both in the British sector of the North Sea.

The FEED is to be completed within the 4Q this year and will provide to BP and its Partners in Shah Deniz an optimum solution for the offshore component of the project.

Commenting this award, Pierre-Armand THOMAS, Deputy CEO of TECHNIP Upstream declared: "The immense reserves of the Caspian Sea make it a target area for the future of TECHNIP's offshore development activities and we are very proud to be given the opportunity to share in the future success of such an important project. This contract is also strategically important for TECHNIP, as it confirms the interest of a major oil and gas company for the TPG 500 concept which is a production jack-up perfectly suited for oilfield development in shallow waters not only in the North Sea, but also in remote areas such as the Caspian Sea".
