Cairn Energy won a Ganga Valley onshore block on its own and an onshore block in Cambay basin in Gujarat in partnership with ONGC. The other big names in the fray - BG Group, Niko Resources and Zarubezneftgaz came away empty-handed.
New entrants Bharat Petroleum, which bid along with ONGC, was successful in Cauvery onshore block CY-ONN-2002/2 and deepwater blocks in Krishna-Godavari basin and Mahanadi Basin. Hindustan Petroleum, in consortium with ONGC, won two Kerala-Konkan deepwater blocks, sources said.
Gujarat State Petroleum won three onshore blocks - CB-ONN-2002/2 in association with Jubilant Enpro Ltd, GeoGobal Resources; CB-ONN-2002/3 with Jubilant Enpro, GeoGlobal and Price Petroleum (both in Gujarat) and CY-ONN-2002/1 in Tamil Nadu with Enpro Finance and Gail.
Reliance Industries, which teamed up with Hardy Oil of UK to bid for eight of the 12 deepwater blocks on offer, could manage only NEC-DWN-2002/1 deepwater block, they added. While ONGC-Oil India combined won the Rajasthan onshore block RJ-ONN-2002/1, Enpro Finance-Gail consortium was the winner for the Assam onshore block AA-ONN-2002/1.
The other two blocks in Assam-Arakan basin - AA-ONN-2002/3 and AA-ONN0-2002/4 went to a partnership of OIL and ONGC.
ONGC on its own won the Gujarat-Saurashtra deepwater blocks GS-DWN-2002/1, Mahanadi deepwater blocks MN-DWN-2002/2 and 3, Northeast coast block NEC-DWN-2002/2 and Andaman blocks AN-DWN-2002/1 and 1.
In all 19 companies had bid for 22 out of the 24 oil and gas blocks on offer in NELP-IV. 11 of these blocks were onshore, one in shallow water and the rest in deepwater.
Sources said Niko Resources' bid for Mahanadi deepwater block was disqualified during the screening.
ONGC along with its partners had bid for 20 blocks Six blocks received single bids while two blocks in Manipur and Palar basin offshore did not solicit any response.
Zarubezneftgaz, a subsidiary of Russian gas firm Gazprom, bid for a Gujarat onshore block CB-ONN-2002/3 along with Gail. On the other hand, BG Group bid on its own for Mahanadi basin deepwater block NEC-DWN-2002/2 and with Gail for Kerala-Konkan basin deepwater block KK-DWN-2002/2.
Niko Resources, which is partnering Reliance Industries in D6 Block in Bay of Bengal where 14.5 trillion cubic feet of gas has been found, bid on its own for two deepwater blocks in Mahanadi basin and one in Andaman sea.
Cairn Energy was the sole bidder for Bihar onshore block GV-ONN-2002/1 while ONGC and OIL together bid for Rajasthan block RJ-ONN-2002/1.
ONGC and BPCL together were the only bidders for Tamil Nadu onshore block CY-ONN-2002/2, a consortium of ONGC, OIL and BPCL was the single consortium bidding for Kerala-Konkan basin deepwater block KK-DWN-2002/2 and ONGC-HPCL for KK-DWN-2002/3 in the same basin. ONGC was the sole bidder in Gujarat-Saurashtra deepwater block GS-DWN-2002/1.
