Geotrace, an independent, integrated, reservoir services company that provides subsurface imaging solutions to the oil and gas industry worldwide, has appointed Gary Yu as the company's first-ever Chief Technology Officer. Yu had been Chief Geophysicist of Reservoir Technologies at Geotrace since 2006.
"With more than 30 years of experience, Gary's knowledge and expertise are widely respected throughout the oil and gas exploration and production industry," said Geotrace CEO Bill Schrom. "He has a proven ability to see complex problems in unique ways and to find elegant solutions, which makes Gary the perfect person to oversee our ongoing advances in technology."
Yu's geosciences work has included extensive experience in integrated prospect evaluation, field development and geophysical technology on projects ranging from North and South America to West Africa, the North Sea and the Far East. His specialties include interpretation, reservoir characterization, seismic attributes, AVO/inversion, pore pressure, surface/borehole seismic acquisition/processing, and PSTM/PSDM.
"As Geotrace becomes more recognized as the leader in subsurface imaging, I'm very excited about the future of the company and the industry," said Yu, who holds an M.S. in geophysics from the University of Oklahoma. "Combining our great people with our leading-edge technologies, Geotrace is in a better position than ever to provide our clients the rich and detailed data necessary to make critical decisions."
Prior to joining Geotrace, Yu had worked with CGG, Exxon Production & Research, Superior Oil, Elf Exploration and Total E&P, where he was Manager of Worldwide Geophysical Benchmark and chief geophysicist in the U.S. He has published numerous papers on processing, AVO (amplitude variation with offset), pore pressure prediction, and interpretation. He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.
