America's Natural Gas Alliance announced that Jim Hackett, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, has been selected as the Alliance's new chairman.
"The abundance and affordability of natural gas is changing our nation's energy future," said Hackett, "As a country, we need to fully utilize this clean-burning, abundant, domestic resource that has the potential to create jobs throughout North America, enhance energy security by reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and advance a cleaner, lower-carbon energy future in our communities. I am honored to be selected by my peers to help lead these efforts at what could well be a defining moment for natural gas."
Hackett has more than 30 years of experience in the energy industry and has served as Anadarko's top executive since 2003. In December, he was honored as the Platts Global Energy Awards 'CEO of the Year.' He assumes the ANGA chairmanship at a time when the industry and the alliance are taking an increasingly prominent role in key climate and energy-related policy conversations. A frequent presence on CNBC, Fox and in other media outlets, Hackett is one of the energy community's most outspoken proponents of the strong relative benefits of natural gas.
"Jim is one of the most respected CEOs in this industry and a vocal champion of all that this new age of natural gas abundance can mean for our nation—from creating jobs to reducing emissions in communities across our country," said ANGA President and CEO Regina Hopper. "Natural gas is ready to serve our nation right now, and ANGA is fortunate to have Jim's leadership at this crucial time, as we work to ensure our country fully employs this clean, made-in-America energy source."
Hackett succeeds David Trice, ANGA's founding chairman, who recently retired as president and CEO of Newfield Exploration Company and now serves as the company’s non-executive chairman. "David's leadership has contributed greatly to the momentum we have today," Hackett said. "The entire industry owes David a debt of gratitude for laying a strong foundation both for ANGA and our collective efforts to help our nation capitalize on the energy, environmental and economic benefits of natural gas."
Before joining Anadarko, Hackett served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Devon Energy Corporation. He has held leadership positions with Duke Energy, Pan Energy, NGC Corp., Burlington Resources and Amoco Oil Co. Hackett also serves as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
