The 3D seismic survey over the East Saiwan structure on Block 4 has been completed. The information is now being processed and new maps will be available shortly. These maps will be an important input for the resources and reserves report being prepared by Gaffney Cline as well as give information for upcoming well locations. The extended seismic acquisition will now continue to also cover the Farha trend on Block 3. The objective of the Block 3 survey is to further define and map the oil bearing Farha South structure. The study will also map the extend of the Barik formation along the entire Farha trend.
"Seismic acquisition increases in Oman. The extension of the 3D-study to also cover the Farha trend on Block 3 follows the encouraging production results from the Farha South-3 well. This underscores the potential on both Block 3 and 4. The 3D-database that is now being compiled will have great importance for the continued progress of Blocks 3 and 4," says Magnus Nordin, Managing Director of Tethys Oil AB.
The survey will cover the entire Farha trend, where a number of structures similar to Farha South have been identified but as yet have not been drilled. The entire survey will encompass 740 square kilometers, starting with an area surrounding the Farha South-3 well and then continuing on to the rest of the trend. The acquisition is expected to be completed in May.
The 3D seismic survey in Block 4 which covered 400 square kilometers is now being processed. Accelerated processing of an area around the Saiwan East-2 well has been completed and the data is now being interpreted and mapped by the operator. Both seismic surveys are conducted by BGP Oil and Gas Services of China.
The Farha South-3 well drilled last year has tested 40+ deg. API oil from two layers, the Barik and the Lower Al Bashir. The Barik produced at a rate of 1,010 bopd at a pump test carried out in January 2010. On Block 4, the Saiwan East-2 well tested 280 bopd of 33 deg. API oil from the Khufai formation by natural flow.
Tethys has a 50 percent interest in the licenses covering Blocks 3 and 4. Consolidated Contractors Energy Development (Oman) Ltd holds the remaining 50 percent and is operator.
