Norsk Hydro Makes Discovery North of Tordis Field

Norsk Hydro ASA found oil in an exploration well north of the Tordis field off Norway. The new find is considered very promising with regards to future development and increased profitability of existing and planned infrastructure in the Snorre/Gullfaks area. The well, 34/7-31, and a related side well on the Borg north prospect, is located approximately 2.5 miles north of the Tordis field. The well was drilled in 680 feet of water and down to a total depth of 8,695 feet by Dolphin Drilling's semisubmersible, Bideford Dolphin. The well found oil bearing sandstone of upper Jurassic age and was permanently plugged on April 25.
