Statoil has received consent to use the Borgland Dolphin semisubmersible drilling rig to drill well 34/11-U-11 in the North Sea. Statoil has previously proven gas/condensate in Valemon near the Kvitebjørn field in the North Sea.
The discovery was made in appraisal well 34/11-5S (Valemon), which was drilled from the Kvitebjørn facility.
The plan is to commence drilling well 34/11-U-11 as soon as the Borgland Dolphin has finished drilling and completion of production well 34/7-E-2 on Vigdis Øst and its subsequent five-year classification at the CCB supply base in Bergen.
The activity has an estimated duration of about 18 days.
The main objective of the drilling activity is to clarify the presence of any potential shallow gas before determining the setting depth for the 20" casing in future production wells from the planned location of the Valemon facility.
The water depth at the location is about 133 meters, and the shortest distance to land is about 72 nautical miles.
