Omron, ALTA Rig Systems Team Up for Drawworks Control

Omron Oilfield & Marine, a leading provider of AC and DC drive systems and rig automation control systems for the oil and gas drilling industry, will partner with premier drawworks provider ALTA Rig Systems Inc. to deliver automated control systems for their electric drawworks product line.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, A.R.S. designs and manufactures standard and custom gear driven drawworks in the 600 HP to 3000 HP range. Gear driven drawworks have become increasingly popular among rig builders because they are safer, lighter, have a smaller footprint, and offer more torque and efficiency than standard chain driven drawworks.

"Our recent success in the Canadian land market has positioned us to expand internationally and offshore," said Bernard Vuković, President of ALTA Rig Systems Inc. "Joining Omron Oilfield & Marine, a premier controls company that serves global markets, will afford us that opportunity."

"The added control capabilities provided by the combination of AC technology and Omron's intelligent automated control software are proving to be the product stack of choice to tackle today's challenging formations," said Dave Noethlich, Director of Marketing for Houston-based Omron. "Our new partnership with A.R.S. will enable Omron to offer pre-engineered solutions with the out-of-the-box performance our customers expect."
