E.ON Ruhrgas E&P is making rapid progress in Rhourde Yacoub. In only ten months the project team of its subsidiary, E.ON Ruhrgas E&P Algerien GmbH, has successfully completed all preparations for the first exploration well: geological and drilling planning, coordination with the Algerian partner, Sonatrach, and the call for tenders, procurement and installation of the entire infrastructure needed.

The exploration area is 250 km from the office in the next town, Hassi Messaoud. What was once only desert is now the site of the Dalma Rig-13 with a 150-member international team working on it.

Seven wells by 2012

A new phase in the search for gas and oil began on November 15, 2009. It is the first of a total of seven wells on the 1,091 km² block 406a that have to be completed by mid-2012. The drilling will take more than 100 days to reach the expected reservoir rocks at a depth of more than 5,000 m. Then the rock will be tested to check whether it contains gas and oil.

"The team in Rhourde Yacoub has done excellent work in a brief space of time. This achievement was only possible through very good teamwork among the experienced E&P staff and the international service companies involved as well as support by local partners and authorities," said Dr. Carsten Reinhold, Algeria Exploration Manager.
