Production Slows in the Gulf Ahead of Tropical Storm Erika

The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port stopped has stopped offloading tankers and Apache and Duke Energy have shut in production as Tropical Storm Erika moved into the Gulf of Mexico on Friday. Apache has shut in approximately 134 million cubic feet per day of natural gas and 4,200 barrels per day of oil and Duke Energy has shut in 4.8 mmcf of natural gas production. BP has evacuated non-essential personnel in the path of the storm.

Apache said that of its shut production 77 mmcf per day of natural gas and 2,800 bpd of oil were for its own use. The other production is being done for other companies. Workers have not been evacuated from the LOOP's platform, located 18 miles offshore Grand Isle, Louisiana.
